Flash Flood Watch Issued For Parts Of Hudson Valley

Bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms, some with locally heavy downpours, will move across the area Thursday into Thursday night

With tropical moisture, some due to what is now Hurricane Michael, heading toward the Hudson Valley, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for parts of the region. The watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 through 2 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

The affected counties are Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster.

The NWS said bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms, some with locally heavy downpours, will move across the area Thursday into Thursday night ahead of an approaching cold front as tropical moisture moves into the area.

A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected, however rainfall rates as high as up to an inch an hour are possible.

Flash flooding is possible especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas as well as creeks, brooks and small streams as water levels are running above normal.
