Campbell was arrested following an investigation by Vehicular Crime Unit detectives into the Oct. 18 crash, police said.
According to police, 40-year-old Tracy Mangino was walking east on North Country Road, east of Block Island Drive, when she struck by a commercial, box-type truck that was also traveling east. Police say Campbell was driving truck and fled the scene.

“Vehicular Crime Unit detectives canvassed the neighborhood and were successful in gathering evidence, including video footage of the driver’s truck leaving the scene,” District Attorney Thomas Spota said Tuesday.
Campbell pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip. He is being held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
Campbell also has pending drunk driving and leaving the scene of accident charges stemming from a 2012 incident in which he sideswiped a parked car on East Main Street in Port Jefferson early on the morning of June 30 of that year, Spota said. In that case, Campbell tried to leave the scene on foot but was arrested by a Suffolk police officer assisted by the village constable, Spota said.
