Learn how, here on the North Fork, you can help the Eastern Bluebird to regain its place as the New York State Bird. Thanks to the efforts of people who put up nest boxes and monitor them through the nesting season their population continues to grow. Join Local Program Director William Zitek, DVM and The New York State Bluebird Society President, John Ruska, for a program on the conservation of the Eastern Bluebird, our State Bird. You will learn what caused its population to drop dramatically from the flocks of hundreds seen on the North Fork in the 1940’s to its steady recovery due to local people like yourselves who have helped the bluebird numbers to increase by putting up nest boxes. Guidelines on nest box building and placement, bluebird habitat, and nest box monitoring will be discussed. Mr. Ruska, has his own nest box trail and monitors other nest box trails in New York, Come join us April 5th and learn how to help. For more info: 917-623-5373 or northforkaudubon@mac.com
