Pets Missing After Greenport Fire

Anyone who sees the pets are asked to contact the North Fork Animal Welfare League.

The Greenport residents whose home was destroyed by a fire on Thursday morning, announced they were missing several pets after the incident, according to the North Fork Animal Welfare League Facebook page.

The residents had three cats, but it is unknown whether they were in the house or not, and two dogs that ran out the back door when firefighters went in.

The cats were a black calico named Bella, a red tabby named Roxy, and a white cat with stripes named Tripod, according to a report in SoutholdLocal. Tripod also had difficulty walking due to a birth defect, according to the report.

One of the dogs was a border collie named Joyce who was particularly close to one of the residents, Kenneth MacAlpin, 51, according to the report.

“She lets me know when my blood sugar goes low and when my post-traumatic stress syndrome is acting up,” MacAlpin told SoutholdLocal.

The second dog was a pitbull mix named Bengor.

Anyone who spots any of the animals are asked to contact the shelter 631-765-1811 ext 1.
