Police: Southold Man Arrested on Second DWI Charge

The arrest was made on Sunday.

A Southold man was arrested on his second DWI charge in Mattituck on Sunday afternoon, according to Southold Town Police.

Joseph Charnews, 26, was stopped for failing to stop at a stop sign on Love Lane and Pike Street when he was found to be intoxicated, police said.

He was arrested and transported to Southold Town Police Department headquarters.

A computer check revealed that Charnews had a prior DWI arrest and his was impounded due to the DWI conviction, police said.

He was also previously arrested in 2014 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after shoving a police officer who was investigating a fight in Greenport, according to Newsday.

He was held for arraignment.
