Propane gas tanks outside the garage ignited and caused the flames to spread to the kitchen and living room, according to fire officials. The rest of the house sustained smoke damage.

The blaze was brought under control in 20 minutes with help from over 50 firefighters and seven trucks from the East Northport, Commack and Kings Park fire departments. The units were led by Chief Wayne Kaifler Jr., and First Assistant Chief Dan Heffernan.
