Police ID Woman Killed in Northport House Fire
The fire broke out in a home on Theron Place Friday, police say.

Suffolk Police have identified the woman who died in house fire in Northport Friday morning.
Rescuers responded to a 911 call reporting the fire at 52 Theron Place, at approximately 7:40 a.m., police said.
Ellen Carberry, 64, who had managed to exit the house with her son John Carberry, went back inside possibly to rescue two cats. She was then overcome by the fire, police said.

Ellen Carberry was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. John Carberry, 30, was not injured, police said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to be accidental, police said.

The Northport, East Northport, Centerport and Greenlawn fire departments extinguished the fire.
