Police Log: Suspicious Package Found, Arrest for Attempted Grand Larceny

Monday, May 18
At 1:42 p.m., police received a report of youth hanging out and possibly drinking and smoking on Gilbert Street. Officers arrived to the scene and issued a 20-year-old Northport man an appearance ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and a glass pipe containing residue.

Tuesday, May 19
At 1:12 a.m., police received a report that an unknown person was shooting invisible laser beams into a woman’s back, which was causing her pain, on Grove Street. The woman told police this issue is an ongoing problem. Officers were unable to logically explain the incident.

At 5:58 p.m., police reported grand larceny in which a man’s rent cash was missing from the mailbox on Lewis Road.
At 6:28 p.m., police received a report of a dog in a vehicle at Petport Pet Supply on Main Street. Officers responded to the scene and found that it was not too hot for the dog to be in the vehicle and the animal was not in distress.
At 9:42 p.m., Joseph Pellegrino, 54, of Huntington, was arrested and charged with fourth degree attempted grand larceny, petty larceny and fourth degree criminal mischief on Doris Avenue.
Wednesday, May 20
At 4:07 p.m., police reported a suspicious backpack and a black box that was sitting on the side of the road on Stanton Street. Officers checked the area and did not locate the packages.
At 6:07 p.m., police reported a domestic incident in which there was a reported fight in the street on Maple Avenue. Police subsequently arrested a 58-year-old Northport woman and charged her with obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest and arrested a 53-year-old Northport man and charged him with criminal obstruction of breathing and obstructing governmental administration following a domestic incident.
At 10:50 p.m., police received a report of a domestic incident at police headquarters where a man reported unwanted and rude text messages from an ex-girlfriend. Officers said the messages weren’t serious enough for a violation and they noticed that the complainant was engaging in the conversation and sending rude messages back to the ex-girlfriend. Officers told the man to cut off contact with the ex-girlfriend if he wanted to press the matter further.
