Veterans Running Series to Race Through Northport, East Northport

There will be six races in the 2015 Suffolk County Veterans Running Series.

Suffolk County has organized a veterans running series that will help to raise additional funds for local veteran service groups.

The series will give veterans and residents a chance to participate in local races, including races in Northport and East Northport.

“With the launch of the 2015 Suffolk County Veterans Running Series, we now have the opportunity to make an even bigger impact for our local veterans,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

Races in the series will be held in Northport, East Northport, Lake Ronkonkoma, Oakdale and Lindenhurst.

Here are the races included in the 2015 Suffolk County Veterans Running Series:

  • The Annual Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer “I DID THE GRID” Run/Walk on Saturday, May 23 at Pulaski Elementary School, East Northport
  • Lt. Michael P. Murphy 4-Mile Run Around the Lake on Saturday, June 27 at Lake Ronkonkoma
  • Firecracker 5k on Saturday, July 4 at Dowling College, Oakdale
  • Cow Harbor Warriors’ Captain Joseph J. Boccia Jr. USMC 4-Mile Warrior Run on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Crab Meadow Beach Park, Northport
  • Suffolk County Marathon and Half Marathon to Support Our Veterans on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Heckscher State Park, East Islip
  • Long Island Run for the Warriors on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Lindenhurst

Veterans and residents who run or volunteer in all six races in the series will receive a commemorative challenge coin. Those who run or volunteer in most of the races in the series will receive a commemorative participation medal.
