Grand Jury Indicts Rockland Man Accused Of Killing Man, Hiding Corpse
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II called it "a brutal and senseless act of violence."
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A 63-year-old West Nyack resident accused of stabbing Orange County resident Brian Romney and hiding the body inside his home has been indicted by a Rockland County Grand Jury.
Joseph Janulewicz faces felony charges for what Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II called "a brutal and senseless act of violence."
The search for Romney began June 10 when a relative filed a missing person report with the Greenwood Lake Police Department saying he did not arrive at his relative’s home as expected on June 8 and had not been in communication with his family and friends since then.

New York State police were asked to assist in the missing person investigation. On June 15 they located a vehicle belonging to Romney near East Street in West Nyack.
Prosecutors did not say why said the investigation led to Janulewicz's home, but did say it led to the discovery of Romney’s corpse concealed inside. SEE: Body Found, Rockland Man Charged With Murder

Romney, 56, had been stabbed many times, prosecutors said. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.
The two felony charges Janulewicz faces are second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse.
"This type of violence will never be tolerated and those who commit these crimes will be held accountable," Walsh said. "My office will continue to work with the New York State Police to ensure justice is served for this horrific crime."
Janulewicz was sent to the Rockland County Jail. He faces a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison if convicted of second-degree murder.
Executive Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd and Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Dugandzic are prosecuting the case.
