Nyack Shooting Was Accidental: Clarkstown Cops
The 20-year-old shooter mishandled the gun he was holding, detectives believe.

Clarkstown detectives arrested Darique Burke April 7 for his involvement in the shooting of a man on March 12 in Central Nyack.
At about 5:40 p.m. that afternoon a man dialed 911 and told police he had been shot. Officers responding to the call were met by the victim who was bleeding from the mouth area.
The Nyack 20-year-old said that an unknown person shot him as he was walking in the area of the Super 8 Motel in Central Nyack.

Twelve days later, police identified Burke, 20, as a person of interest.
Friday, police said that this point it appears that Burke shot the man accidentally because he mishandled the gun in his possession.

There are no signs of a dispute, police said. The firearm used in the shooting has not been recovered.
Burke was arrested and charged with assault 2nd (felony) and criminal possession of a weapon (misdemeanor).
He was arraigned at Clarkstown Justice Court and was sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He will return to court on April 11.
