Car Drops Over 90 Feet Into Sand Mine at Fireworks Factory, Pair From West Sayville Arrested
A car went over a hill at Grucci Fireworks, dropping over 90 feet into the sand mine.
Yaphank, NY (Brookhaven Fire District)-
On Friday at about 7:15 p.m., Suffolk County Police and the Brookhaven Fire Department received a report of an accident with reported overturn on Grucci Lane off Horseblock Road.
Brookhaven FD 2nd Assistant Chief Loiacono responded along with Rescue 3 and South Country Ambulance. On first arrival he advised he may possibly need a brush truck. Loiacono then stated he had the vehicle down a 90 foot embankment and that an adult male and a child were up top, however a female was still in the sand mine.

Members quickly grabbed the stokes and used them to assist the woman who was trapped in the mine. South County Ambulance transported the occupants to Brookhaven Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The scene was turned over to police to investigate.
Update: The driver Anna Torres, 33, of West Sayville, was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), DWI, Endangering the Welfare of a Child. A passenger in the car, William Wright, 31, West Sayville, was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
