UPDATE: Police ID Woman Critically Injured in Alleged DWI Crash

Crash occurred in Coram late Christmas Eve, police say.

Update 11 a.m. Monday: Police have identified the pedestrian as 50-year-old Laura Masciale. Police said Masciale is homeless.

A Bellport man was arrested for DWI after his vehicle struck and critically injured a pedestrian in Coram late Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, an unidentified female was walking northbound on Fife Drive when she was struck by a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling southbound on Fife Drive at approximately 11:30 p.m.

The pedestrian was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Coram Fire Department ambulance and is listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Floyd Patterson, 56, was arrested and charged with DWI. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Patterson is being held in the Sixth Precinct and he is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The incident is under investigation by the Vehicular Crime Unit detectives. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash is asked to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
