Long-time Plainview Resident Serves Community's Eyes

Optix Family Eyecare Center offers a range of services, from fitting contact lenses to LASIK surgery.

Serving the Plainview community for over 25 years, Optix Family Eyecare offers a range of vision care services performed by highly trained optometrists and opticians.

Optometrist Dr. Joel Kestenbaum grew up in Plainview. He returned in 1984 to practice optometry because, he says, he likes Plainview residents and enjoys seeing them around town.

“Even though Plainview is not a small town, knowing that I see my “neighbors” every day gives me that small town feeling and the incentive to do even more for my patients,” Dr. Kestenbaum said.

He specializes in fitting contact lenses to patients who are wary of using the latest technology. Dr. K and his associate, Dr. Michelle Zalaznick, also a Plainview High School graduate, have over 25 years each of professional expertise in eye care.

Optix works to serve the entire family They advise bringing your child in to have their first eye exam at age 3 and offer an extensive children’s eyeglass selection, including brands such as Disney, X-Games and Nike. Dr. Kestenbaum’s son, Evan, has re-invented the company’s optical boutique.

Their eyewear selection is one of the largest collections of designer frames and sunglasses on Long Island, carrying brands such as Tiffany and Judith Leiber. Evan says, “We know you'll be able to see clear and comfortably because we use the latest lens technology available, but we also want you to look good while doing it.  Your glasses are the first thing people see when you meet them."

Using a variety of new innovations, such as blade-free procedures, laser eye trackers, and Custom Wavefront technology, Optix partners with ophthalmologists to offer treatments for LASIK refractive surgery. Dr. Kestenbaum and his associates do the pre and post-operative care for LASIK patients.  According to Dr. Kestenbaum, “Our main goal at Optix is to get our patients to see comfortably and clearly, and our computerized equipment in our lab allows us to do just that.”

In addition, Optix uses analytical procedures and advanced computerized equipment to offer diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of eye disease. At an Optix eye exam, optometrists check for problems such as dry eyes, cataracts, ocular allergies, glaucoma and more.

“The bottom line is we are a one stop eye care practice for those patients who want to treat their eyes right, prevent disease, look good, and see comfortably and clearly all under one roof.” Kestenbaum said.

Optix is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (516) 931-6330 to schedule an appointment today.
