Carrying new backpacks and books, elementary, middle and high school students in the Port Jefferson School District arrived for their first day of the 2016-17 school year on Sept. 6.
At all three schools, students were welcomed by teachers, administrators and support staff as they made their way to their classrooms, and quickly became acclimated to their new schedules and routines.
This school year brings about several new initiatives for student learning. At the elementary school, a co-teaching special education program has kicked off; at the high school, an AP computer science course has been added and Google Classroom is being integrated at all levels.
