Student brings voice of his peers to Port Jefferson School Board
Max Okst is the voice for his peers as the student representative to the Port Jefferson Board of Education.

From Port Jefferson School District: Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Max Okst serves as a voice of his peers as a student representative to the seven-member Port Jefferson School District Board of Education.
Okst, who was elected to the position by his classmates at the end of the last school year, reports on student activities and upcoming events at the board’s monthly meetings. With an interest in pursuing a college degree in theater design and technology and his involvement in the drama club throughout his educational career, Okst is motivated by his growing awareness of the importance of communication skills in his role.
“Being involved in theater for the past four years and now having this responsibility have both definitely increased my leadership skills,” said Okst. “It’s also important for students to understand the role of our board of education and I like being that connection.”
