Robber Threatens Officers With Knife at Manhasset Department Store: Police

BREAKING: The incident occurred Tuesday night, police say.

A Queens man was arrested for robbing a Manhasset department store and threatening officers with a knife Tuesday night, police say.

According to authorities, police received a call for a man with a knife in his possession inside Lord and Taylor, located at 1440 Northern Boulevard, at 6 p.m.

Two loss prevention officers arrived to the department store to observe Stephen Hicks, 51, of Glen Oaks, enter the men’s accessories department, remove five pairs of sunglasses from the counter, conceal them in his jacket pocket and attempt to leave the store, police say.

The officers tried to stop him but Hicks revealed a small black knife and threatened to hurt them, police say.

Hicks was detained until police arrival following a brief struggle, police say. The sunglasses were recovered at the scene.

Hicks was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
