Cops: Men Posed as UPS to Attempt a Robbery

Men dressed in brown jackets, tried to push into a home after asking for a signature on a package, police said.

Two men posed as deliverymen to try and rob a Hewlett home Tuesday afternoon, according to Nassau County Police.

Police said the two men rang the doorbell of a Henrietta Place home at 12:30 p.m. while holding cardboard boxes. The two were dressed in dark brown jackets similar to UPS uniforms, cops said.

The homeowner became suspicious and told the men to leave the packages on the stoop. The subjects insisted the delivery needed a signature and they would not be able to leave the packages without one, cops said.

As the homeowner unlocked the door, the men tried to push the door open and get into the house, detectives said. They ran from the scene and got into a dark, four-door car that was parked in front of Franklin Elementary School, cops said. As they were running, the victim saw they each had handguns, police said.

They fled east on Henrietta Place, police said. The car had been previously occupied by two other unknown subjects, police said.

Both subjects were described as black men, 5-foot-10, and thin builds. Both were wearing brown jackets with gray hooded sweatshirts underneath and dark colored jogging pants. One man had a snake decal on the left side of his jacket.
