Two Edgemont High Students and One Scarsdale High Student Named Semi-Finalists in Intel Science Talent Search
The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is the nation's most prestigious pre-college science competition.

Two Edgemont High School students, and one Scarsdale High School student, were named semi-finalists in the prestigious, nationwide Intel Science Talent Search.
Edgemont’s Brian Kam, 17, and Samuel J. Lewis, also 17, were part of the 300 selected as semi-finalists. Additionally, Scarsdale’s David Frank, 17, was also chosen.
Kim’s entry was “Spatial and Temporal Regulation of the Microtubule Cytoskeleton in Interphase Cells via Motor Domain Phosphorylation of the Kinesin-13 KLP10A;” Lewis’ was “Activation of Pro-Inflammatory Genes Suggests Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern (PAMP) Component in Giardia lamblia Recognized by the Murine Innate Immune System;” and Frank’s was “The Relation of Cell Viability and Adaptability to the Alterations in Mitochondrial Metabolism that Occur in Alzheimer’s Disease.”

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition. Alumni of STS have made extraordinary contributions to science and hold more than 100 of the world’s most coveted science and math honors, including the Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science.
Annually, students entering the Intel STS compete for more than $1.6 million in awards. For 2015, more than 1,800 students entered the contest.

From the pool of 300, 40 finalists are then invited to Washington, DC in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for three top awards of $150,000 each.
