Smithtown School District Hosts Day of Tuba and Euphonium

Event held at Nesaquake Middle School.

Congratulations to the 16 Smithtown School District students who recently participated in the Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s 34th Annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium, hosted by Nesaquake Middle School.

More than 200 tuba players from schools throughout Suffolk County participated in workshops and performed in a special concert led by guest artist Dr. Aaron Tindall, the assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at Ithaca College. Dr. Tindall has served as principal tubist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Aspen Festival Orchestra and as a soloist is a two-time finalist in the prestigious Concert Artist Guild Competition, a Grammy Award nominee and a Global Music Award winner.

SCMEA’s Day of Tuba and Euphonium provides an opportunity for select students to learn from a master tubist, experience playing in a unique setting and hear other outstanding performers from all levels on these often less-celebrated instruments. Smithtown Tri-M Music Honor Society students were on hand to help out as well.
