DA: Sagaponack Man Charged in Bridgehampton Arson Also Set Patchogue Bar on Fire

Man indicted on new arson charge stemming from 2013 fire, DA says.

A Sagaponack man charged with setting an oceanfront Bridgehampton residence on fire this past April, has been indicted and arraigned on another charge of arson for intentionally setting a Patchogue bar on fire in 2013, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Monday.

David Osiecki, 54, was sent to the county jail without bail on Dec. 18 after pleading not guilty to the new charge alleging he set fire to the Off Key Tikki bar on Baker Place in Patchogue, Spota said.

An investigation found that Osiecki, after an argument with the owner of the establishment, used his cigar to set fire to a decorative bale of hay after the bar closed on Nov. 3, 2013, Spota said.

No one was injured, but the fire caused major damage to the building.

In the Bridgehampton incident on April 19, authorities say Osiecki set a 7-bed, 8-bath Dune Road home on fire. The home was severely damaged in the blaze.

Following psychiatric exams, Osiecki was found competent in October after psychiatrists determined the Osiecki understands the criminal charges he faces, Spota said.

The findings did not determine whether he was suffering from mental disease or defect at the time of the crimes, Spota said.

Osiecki will return to State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho’s court for a court conference on Feb. 6.
