Man Busted for DWI After Rollover in Southampton: Police

The DWI arrest was the second within a month for Christopher Hegel of Southold, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY - A Southold man was busted for driving drunk after a rollover accident in Southampton on Sunday.

According to New York State Police, Christopher J. Hegel, 50, was arrested on Sunrise Highway in the eastbound lane near the merger for County Route 39 Southampton Sunday after the single car accident.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said, and is slated for arraignment Monday morning at Southampton Town Justice Court.

The arrest was the second in a month for Hegel: According to New York State Police, Hegel, 49 arrested on March 6 and charged with driving while intoxicated following a stop for a traffic violation on New York State Route 24.
