W.S. Mount Elementary Transforms Into Native American Village
An enriched history lesson for kindergarten students.

W.S. Mount Elementary School kindergarten students recently participated in a hands-on history lesson when the mini gym was transformed into an authentic Native American village.
After completing a history lesson on the subject, the kindergarten classes participated in a simulation of the events of a typical day in the life of early Native Americans. Students created Native American outfits and rotated through seven interactive, hands-on stations. They read stories in a tepee, “hunted” for buffalo, planted corn, made clay pots and even worked to gather food. For the culminating experience, each class gathered around a life-sized tepee and enjoyed a delicious feast.
Within the classrooms, students completed a diverse number of learning activities. These included constructing model tepees and creating “all about books” on the Native Americans.
