Friendly’s – the ice-cream parlor that serves up frozen treats, burgers and more – has abruptly closed several Long Island locations in recent days.

Patch has so far confirmed that the Wantagh restaurant, along with Friendly’s locations in East Northport, Bay Shore, Copiague, Massapequa, Patchogue, Hicksville, Westbury, Farmingdale, North Babylon and West Babylon, are no longer open for business.

Patch was unable to reach J & B Restaurant Partners of New York, the Friendly’s franchisee in New York, for comment. But the franchisee said the Northport closing was “regrettable” and that “continuing operation was no longer viable,” Newsday reported.

Long Islanders hankering for a Friendly’s fix still have nearly 20 locations to choose from in Nassau and Suffolk counties, according to the corporate website.

Friendly’s, based in Wilbraham, Mass., filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2011. At that time, a corporate executive said that J & B Restaurant Partners would be keeping Long Island Friendly’s locations open with plans to open new restaurants on the island, Newsday reported.
