Local Leaders Honor Wantagh Key Club

Members of Wantagh High School Key Club commended at pinning ceremony.

Wantagh High School Key Club members were honored by district administrators, local and state officials and Wantagh Kiwanis officials during a pinning ceremony in the high school auditorium this week.

During the ceremony, Wantagh Kiwanis President Heidi Felix congratulated the students on their dedication to community service.

“You are all special,” Felix said. “You are now part of an international organization whose goal is helping people.”

New York State Senator Michael Venditto and Assemblyman David McDonough noted that the students will be interacting with local government. Hempstead Town Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney said that the increase in Key Club membership is a tribute to the Wantagh community, explaining, “They will bring the skills learned in Key Club back to the community.”

Key Club member Emily Fenter was also honored for her participation in the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Teddy Bear Drive. The hospital received a $500 donation in her name for her volunteer efforts with the drive.

The Wantagh High School Key Club has increased its membership from 10 members in 2013-2014 to 100 members this current school year.
