• UPDATE: New video shows large plume erupt at Emerald Isle fire that destroyed two homes (wbtv.com) — Firefighters from Atlantic Beach joined multiple departments battling a major blaze on Emerald Isle Saturday that destroyed two oceanfront homes and damaged five others. Everyone inside escaped safely and no injuries were reported, but officials say two houses are total losses as they continue investigating what caused the dramatic fire and large plume seen in new video.

• ENC shelter urging anglers to clear shorelines of fishing gear after wave of animal injuries (publicradioeast.org) — Coastal residents, including those fishing around Atlantic Beach, are being urged to clear leftover hooks and lines after a Newport wildlife shelter treated three seriously injured birds, one of which died from swallowing a hook. The Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter warns that tangled fishing gear can cause starvation and severe wounds, and asks anyone who finds an entangled animal to call a wildlife rescue instead of cutting the line.
