• Deadly Brain-eating amoeba linked to Durham facility; health dept says creek lacked required permits (abc11.com) — Durham residents should know that a man-made creek outside the El Futuro mental health center has been closed after state investigators linked it as the likely source of a deadly brain-eating amoeba that killed a 17-year-old. The Durham County Health Department says the water feature lacked required permits and was not effectively disinfected, and officials have not said if or when it might reopen.
   

• 'Critical facility': Durham advances $55M project for new emergency operations, 911 call center (cbs17.com) — Durham leaders have approved more than $55 million for a new Emergency Operations Center and backup 911 call center on Broad Street, consolidating city and county emergency communications. The project, expected to open in 2028, replaces a 1940s-era facility and aims to improve response times, coordination, and long-term cost efficiency for Durham residents.
   

• Governor offers $25,000 reward for information in decades-old Durham murder case (wral.com) — State officials have increased the reward to $25,000 for information about the 2005 killing of Durham County resident Rosa Lee Crabtree in her Rougemont home. The Durham County Sheriff's Office is reexamining evidence, and investigators urge anyone with tips to contact them or the State Bureau of Investigation to help her family find long-awaited answers.
