• Eden Eure Honeycutt: 1952 to 2026 (ocracokeobserver.com) — Longtime Outer Banks resident Eden Eure Honeycutt, who built a home in Ocracoke and volunteered at Ocracoke School and with Meals on Wheels, has died at 74. Friends and former neighbors can honor her at a celebration of life in Hillsville, Virginia, on October 24, or by contributing to a scholarship fund created in her and her husband’s name.
   

• N.C. Highway 12 to open to traffic in both directions at Pea Island on Wednesday morning with restricted entry (ocracokeobserver.com) — If you live on Ocracoke, you’re now allowed to enter Hatteras Island via the temporary N.C. 12 detour at Pea Island, provided you have proper identification and follow the staged reentry rules. Traffic is alternating through a one-lane gravel section, with visitors barred until Thursday morning while officials finish storm recovery and property owners prepare for guests.
