Guides connect these stories to the broader history of Virginia Beach, and more tours later this month will spotlight agriculture and Revolutionary War espionage, giving residents fresh ways to engage with local history.
   

2. Virginia Beach Community Grow Fest Brings Family Fun (hamptonroadsmessenger.com) — Virginia Beach residents are invited to Community Grow Fest at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can explore demo gardens, join quick workshops on gardening, nutrition, and finances, meet Extension experts, and enjoy food trucks and giveaways—all free and open to the public.
   

3. 7-year-old Virginia boy honored for calling 911 during mom's seizure (wtvr.com) — A 7-year-old Virginia Beach boy is being celebrated by city police after calmly calling 911 and helping his baby sister when his mother suffered a seizure at home. Police Chief Paul Neudigate formally recognized young Zayden Curran Herndon, praising both his composure and his parents’ preparation. The family hopes his story reminds others to teach kids how to handle emergencies.
   

4. Virginia Beach Powerball ticket wins $100,000 (13newsnow.com) — A Powerball ticket sold at Boulevard Stop Mart on Virginia Beach Boulevard is worth $100,000 after matching five numbers in Wednesday’s drawing. While the billion-dollar jackpot went to Illinois, this run generated millions for Virginia’s K-12 schools, including more than $914 million in education contributions last fiscal year.
   

5. Radio DJ 'Shaggy' confirms he is no longer on Z104 (wavy.com) — Virginia Beach radio listeners are waking up to big changes, as longtime Z104 personality Brandon “Shaggy” Stokes confirms he’s no longer with the Norfolk-based station after 25 years on air. He says he’ll remain in the 757 and promises that popular community events Shaggfest and Stuff the Bus will continue, though future dates haven’t been announced yet.
