📰 News we're reading

1. This NC destination ranks as No. 1 place for Gen Z to live. Here's why (newsobserver.com) — Raleigh has been ranked the nation's No. 1 city for Gen Z, thanks to its strong job market for new graduates, relatively low cost of living, and vibrant student-to-career pipeline. With major universities, growing opportunities in education, healthcare, and life sciences, and affordable internet and everyday costs, the city continues to attract young adults while remaining livable for longtime residents.

2. Caught on video: 2 patrons taken to ground by officers at Raleigh bar, neither charged (wral.com subscription) — Two patrons were taken to the ground and handcuffed by plainclothes officers inside Alchemy in Raleigh's Glenwood South, but neither was ultimately charged. The incident, now under review by the Wake County Sheriff's Office, comes as Raleigh leaders weigh increased patrols and a revived nightlife task force, raising fresh questions about bar enforcement tactics and safety in the city's busiest entertainment district.

3. Raleigh's Ashe Avenue could see new development if rezoning goes through (wral.com) — A proposed rezoning at Ashe and Wakefield avenues could allow a small retail spot, like a coffee shop or bakery, between Pullen Park and NC State, with existing homes staying in place. Neighbors in this historic Raleigh area welcome walkable destinations but worry about parking and infrastructure as the plan heads to the Planning Commission and then City Council.

4. Momma Takes on Raleigh at Hopscotch Music Fest (raleighmag.com) — Hopscotch Music Festival brings indie rock band Momma to Raleigh's main stage Thursday night, giving local fans a chance to catch their headlining set downtown.
