New Hanover County picks Cape Fear River Watch manager for Soil and Water Conservation director (portcitydaily.com) — New Hanover County has hired Robert Clark, a longtime Cape Fear River Watch leader with deep Wilmington ties, as its new Soil and Water Conservation director starting Sept. 29. Clark, a UNCW graduate who has managed water quality work for Wilmington and Leland, will oversee efforts to protect local soil and waterways that directly affect residents' health and environment.
   

2. Wilmington man sentenced for 2021 holiday shooting (starnewsonline.com subscription) — A Wilmington man has been sentenced to 23–30 years in prison for a 2021 Thanksgiving Day shooting on Market Street that injured a passenger in a family vehicle. Jurors convicted him of attempted first-degree murder and related charges, while separate cases involving other defendants and the victim's later killing continue in New Hanover County courts.
   

3. Hoggard men's soccer opens conference play with 4-2 win over New Hanover (wwaytv3.com) — Hoggard High's men's soccer team opened conference play in Wilmington with a 4-2 win over New Hanover at Legion Stadium, featuring two goals each from James McLean and Tre Bennett. The defending state champion Vikings, now 7-0-1 overall, move to 1-0 in conference and will face Topsail next week, keeping local prep soccer stakes high.
