About Zeljkovic Fencing Academy

Zeljkovic Fencing Academy

offers group and private lessons for both recreational and competitive fencers in foil, epee and saber.
Its founders,Jelena  and Miodrag (Mickey) Zeljkovic, national champions in their native Serbia in all three weapons, aim to promote the Olympic sport of fencing in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area.
Fencing is both a mental and physical sport, often referred to as “physical chess.” It improves concentration and teaches discipline, precision, endurance, speed and strategic thinking. Fencers are highly trained, all-around athletes.
Fencing has been an Olympic sport since the first modern games in 1896, and competitions are held at the local, state, national and world level.
More than 30 top-tier colleges in the U.S. have an NCAA fencing team and many recruit skilled high school fencers early. Colleges know that fencers will enrich the school, in the same way that an accomplished poet or violinist brings something extra.
As the parents of two young children, the Zeljkovics know the importance of mental and physical development. In addition to being fun, fencing improves the following:
Physical fitness & flexibility
Concentration & mental acuity
Discipline and drive
