Former 76er Doug Overton Pleads Guilty In Indecent Exposure Case: DA's Office

Breaking: The former basketball player will undergo a psychosexual evaluation, according to the Montgomery County DA's Office.

LOWER MERION, PA – Doug Overton, the former Philadelphia 76er, St. Joseph's coach, and La Salle grad, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of disorderly conduct in his indecent exposure, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's office.

Overton, 47, of Philadelphia, was accused of exposing his genitals on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail in Lower Merion on April 30, which he later denied, saying he was urinating while trekking the trail.

The DA's office said Overton was sentenced to one year probation and must undergo a psychosexual evaluation. Overton must comply with any recommendations that evaluation may produce, the DA's office said.

Several witnesses told police they saw a man on April 30 on the trail with his penis exposed and police were able to locate the suspect who was later identified as Overton.

Shortly after being arrested and charged, Overton released a statement saying he was not exposing himself.

"During the walk I felt the need to relieve myself," Overton said in a prepared statement in early May. "With the nearest bathroom nearly a mile away, I stepped off the trail and into a wooded area to take care of business in what I thought was a discreet manner."

In his statement, Overton said he was apparently not as discreet as he thought.

"I sincerely apologize for my lapse of judgment and the confusion it caused," his statement reads.

Overton played for the 76ers from 1996 to 1998 and in 1999. He coached for St. Joseph's from 2006 to 2008.

He also played for the New Jersey Nets in 1999.

He played basketball while attending La Salle University from 1987 to 1991.
