Animal Welfare Situation Under Investigation At Wrightstown Farm

Newtown Township Police, SPCA officials responded to the Worthington Mill Road farm on Tuesday for an animal welfare check.

WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department and investigators with the Bucks County SPCA are jointly investigating an animal welfare situation that unfolded on Tuesday at a farm in Wrightstown Township.

Police were dispatched to the farm in the 800 block of Worthington Mill Road on Tuesday for an animal welfare check of the property.

Police said as a result of the overall condition of the animals, the Bucks County SPCA responded to the scene and took the primary lead on animal investigation. They were in the process of evaluating conditions and taking corrective measures late Tuesday afternoon, police said.

"Newtown Police and our detectives are investigating as well and we will assist the county
agency if required and necessary, to ensure for the safety and well-being of the farm animals as well as the health of the public," said Newtown Township Police Chief John Hearn.

According to social media reports, the farm is home to numerous goats, several dogs, about a dozen cats, and other animals.

A website posting describes the farm as a goat dairy that produces milk, meats, eggs, and honey on-site.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story mentioned a 4-H sheep scheduled to be shown at the Grange Fair. According to fair organizers, no animals from that farm were scheduled to be shown at the fair.
