Travel conditions Thursday afternoon shortly after the onset of the storm were horrendous in Bucks County, with authorities and drivers reporting extreme delays, road closures, blockages, and crashes.

Conditions were poor across the region: In the Lehigh Valley, drivers on I-78 experienced delays of up to 12 hours, with many people falling asleep while waiting overnight for traffic to move.

In one of the more bizarre incidents, a camel was seen along Rt. 309 in Souderton.

So how are things this morning? The roads appear better than Thursday evening but slush and ice remain so authorities are advising drivers to take it slow.

Many school districts, including Council Rock and Central Bucks, are closed. Many others are operating under a 2-hour delay.

There are reports of numerous incidents that commuters should be aware of:

  • As of 7:40 a.m., all lanes of the NE Extension Southbound approaching Mid County are closed for the clean up of a vehicle fire.
  • 295 Eastbound approaching Route 1 the left lane is blocked with a spin out accident as of 7:20 a.m.

Local police departments are warning drivers to use caution.

Around 6:30 a.m., Newtown Township police reported limited visibility. "The main roads appear wet, but there are still slushy and slick conditions leftover from yesterday and due to the current snow conditions. Please use common sense this morning while making your morning commutes and maybe leave a little earlier than usual."

In Northampton Township, police said there was "still a lot of slush." Officials there are also reminding residents to keep their cars fueled up. "We had several calls yesterday about family members stuck in traffic for 2 hours and running out of gas."

In Upper Southampton, police said roads are slippery in areas "so please be careful during your travels and allow extra time to get where you are going."
