NEWTOWN, PA — The Democrats will take control of the Council Rock School Board after winning four seats on the board on Tuesday and defeating the incumbent Republican board president, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's general election.

Democrats will pick up seats in Regions 5 and 9 with the election of Linda Stone and Nicole Khan and retain seats in Regions 1 and 2 with the election of Tracey Osecki and the re-election of Ed Tate. The four ran under the "Together for Council Rock" slate with Matthew Laskowski and Kimberly A. Winnick, who were unsuccessful in their election bid on Tuesday.

The four winning Democrats from Tuesday will join incumbent Democrat Yota Palli on the board, giving them the five vote majority.

"Yesterday, Council Rock voters said loud and clear that they want our school board focused on educating our kids, not fighting culture wars," said a statement released by the Together for Council Rock slate. "While this means Democrats will hold the majority of the board, we want to make clear that our goal all along has been to ensure our school board focuses on kids, not politics.

"Council Rock has rejected the chaos that engulfed neighboring districts Central Bucks and Pennridge when they gave Moms for Liberty and their allies control of their school boards," the statement continues. "We are so grateful to our many volunteers and supporters, who worked hard to protect the future of our schools. The students of Council Rock won this election."
