Dispute Over Dog Leads To Assault: Newtown Borough Police Report
Police also reported the arrest of a driver at State Street and Washington Avenue for DUI.
NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — An altercation over a dog led to an assault in Newtown Borough in February.
During his monthly report to council Tuesday night, Newtown Borough Police Chief James Sabath briefed the Council on several incidents that happened last month in the borough,
According to the chief, in February police responded to 161 calls and investigated seven traffic accidents.

One of the accidents at Washington Avenue and State Street resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old Yardley man on a DUI charge.
The chief said police also investigated an assault that took place at the CVS Pharmacy.

According to the chief, a 68-year-old man from Huntingdon Valley suffered a broken wrist when he was attacked by a 64-year-old man from Newtown. The assault followed an altercation over a dog.
The chief also reported several fraud investigations during February and said the department cited a trash truck for operating too early in the morning.
Looking ahead to April, the borough’s police department will be taking part in a pedestrian safety blitz. The initiative will be funded through a grant for highway safety from PennDOT.
Also in April, the department will be participating in Drug Take Back Day set for Saturday, April 27. The borough is one of the few locations where sharps will be accepted and the overdose reversal drug Narcan will be distributed.
