DUI Arrests, Stolen Vehicle Top Newtown Township Crime Report
Police also arrested a man on multiple charges following a disturbance at a township restaurant.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Dec. 29 and Jan. 2:
December 29
- At 4:30 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Saturn sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and Township Line Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug equipment were discovered and seized as evidence and the male operator was arrested.
- A Wrightstown Township resident reported the theft of parts from her vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
December 30

- Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to a restaurant in Newtown Township for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was arrested and charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
- At approximately 1 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of an Aston Martin sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
January 1
- At approximately 9:15 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Chevy sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Diamond Drive and Buck Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug equipment were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending against the driver.
- At approximately 11 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan sedan for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and South Drive. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The operator refused to submit blood for chemical testing. Charges are pending.
January 2

- A Newtown Township resident contacted police around noon to report an incident of fraud. The resident explained that an AT&T account was fraudulently opened in his name. AT&T is investigating the matter. There was no monetary loss.
- At approximately 3:15 p.m. police were dispatched to a Newtown Township home for the report of a stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
January 4
At approximately 3:15 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a BMW X5 for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and Township Line Road. As a result of an investigation, the driver was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the
Scranton Police Department and transferred without incident.
