Firearm Seized, Motorists Arrested For Suspected DUI In Newtown Twp.

Resident reports being contacted by the sheriff's department for missing jury duty, but realized it was a scam before being taken for $8K.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Nov. 15 and 21:

November 15

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail at the Newtown Bypass and Lindenhurst Road. The unit is made up of officers from the Upper Makefield, Newtown Township and Newtown Borough. During the detail, 10 trucks were stopped and inspected. Two trucks were placed out of service and three citations and two warnings were issued for violations.
  • At 9:15 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Subaru sedan for committing a vehicle code violation at Buck and Mill Pond roads. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 10:10 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Pontiac for committing a vehicle code violation at the Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace Road. As a result of the investigation, a firearm was discovered and seized as evidence. A woman was taken into custody and charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

November 16

  • At approximately 7:30 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford F-150 for committing a vehicle code violation on South Eagle Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending.

November 17

  • At 1:10 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Honda Accord for committing a vehicle code violation at Newtown-Langhorne Road and the Newtown Bypass. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver refused to submit blood for chemical testing. Charges are pending.

November 19

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 2 p.m. to report a scam. The resident told police that they had received a phone call from someone pretending to be a part of the Bucks County Sheriff’s Warrant Unit. They claimed the resident owed $8,000 for missing jury duty, instructed him to take money out of an ATM, and threatened arrest for non-compliance. The resident recognized the scam and did not suffer any loss.

November 20

  • At approximately 8 p.m. police were dispatched to Windy Bush Road and Skoures Lane in Wrightstown for the report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. Upon speaking with one of the drivers, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

November 21

  • At 1 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford F-250 for committing a vehicle code violation at Woodbourne Road and White Swan Way. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug equipment were discovered and seized as evidence and a man was arrested.
