Longtime Newtown Township Police Officer Retires Her Badge

In her role as School Resource Officer, Hurst developed a strong working relationship with the staff and students at Council Rock North.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — After dedicating more than 34 years of service to the Newtown Township Police Department and to the community, Officer Renee Hurst officially retired on Feb. 29.

Prior to joining Newtown, Hurst worked as a police dispatcher for the Bucks County Department of Communications from 1985 to 1990. She also was employed as a police officer with the Chalfont Borough Police Department from 1986 to 1987 and the Yardley Borough Police Department from 1987 to 1990.

Hired by Chief Duffy on Oct. 18, 1990, Renee began her law enforcement career with the Newtown Township Police Department as a part-time police officer and transitioned to full-time on February 9, 1994. During her time with the department, Hurst has served as a detective and school resource officer.

In her role as the department's School Resource Officer, Officer Hurst developed strong working relationships with the staff and students at Council Rock High School North. She established strong connections with many of the students as she taught and mentored them and encouraged them to turn to her with any questions or concerns.

In celebration of her retirement, Hurst has received countless letters of appreciation and recognition from members of the community, the Council Rock School District, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, the Pennsylvania Senate, the Office of the Attorney General, the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors, the Youth Aid Panel, and neighboring police
departments.

"Renee Hurst was an exemplary member of this department," said Chief John Hearn. "We thank her for her service and wish her a long and happy retirement!"
