Lower Bucks Y Promoting Healthy Holidays With "Step It Up Program"

Help the program reach its 50 million step goal!

The Lower Bucks Family YMCA is partnering with Biomat USA Grifols to put on a free community program that aims to keep the community fit and active during the holidays, which can sometimes leave us feeling unhealthy with all the decadent foods we eat this time of year.

"Step It Up" tasks the community with reaching a collective 50 million steps starting Nov. 21 and ending Jan. 1. The program is open to anyone 13 years old and up.

Step It Up Lower Bucks requires participants to commit to one positive wellness goal of their choice while working toward achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, according to a press release. Participants are encouraged to achieve 6,000 steps a day, three days a week.

Participants will get a free t-shirt, Walker Tracker App, and goal setting and support from Y staff.

A culminating event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Y – 601 S. Oxford Valley Road, Fairless Hills – to recognize top achievers and celebrate 50 million steps as a community.

“Step It Up Lower Bucks is one more way the Y helps to build a stronger, healthier community. We chose the time frame purposefully to help our community remain active during the cold weather; while providing the necessary tools to ring in the New Year healthy and strong." Lower Bucks Family YMCA Managing Chief Operating Officer Trish Feinthel said in a press release. “We encourage participants to choose a goal that is unique to them; with the support of the Y, family and friends, we know they can meet it."

Visit the Y's Step It Up website to register for the program.

Stop by the Y's Welcome Center in Fairless Hills or Newtown – 190 Sycamore Street, Newtown – and share your one wellness goal.
