Newtown Borough Council To Honor Retiring Contractor, Businessowner
During its meeting on Tuesday night, council is also expected to ink a formalized fire services agreement and fill committee positions.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Newtown Borough Council will recognize a retiring public servant and a borough business owner during the Jan. 10th borough council meeting.
Mayor John Burke will be presenting two proclamation, the first to Ron Fesmire, the borough's retiring public works contractor, in recognition of his years of service to the borough.
Fesmire is a familiar face in Newtown Borough where he has faithfully kept Newtown Borough looking good.

Burke will present the second proclamation to Kathy Buczek, the owner of the Temperance House, for decorating the town's Christmas tree and for helping to organize the town's tree lighting through the newly-created grassroots group, The Newtown Experience.
In other business at Tuesday's meeting, council is expected to approve a permit for the Shamrock Shuffle 5K Run. Sponsored by Boss Events and benefiting A Love for Life, the event takes place on Saturday, March 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. along a designated route. There is no rain date

Council also is expected to approve a Certificate of Completion (No. 1) for Court and State, LLC, reducing the Letter of Credit held by Republic Bank by $240,368.
Council is also expected to authorize CKS Engineers to pursue a Local Share Grant with Newtown Township to construct a pedestrian bridge over the Newtown Creek.
In addition, council is expected to authorize Council President Tara Grunde-McLaughlin to sign a Fire Services Agreement with the Newtown Fire Association. The agreement, she said, codifies what has been done in the past and puts it in writing.
In other action, the council will vote to advertise the construction of Patriots Park at Mercer and Court streets. When the project was bid over the summer the borough received only one bid, which was rejected for not meeting the requirements of the bid.
Council will also make the following appointments to borough councils and commissions:
- Michael Adams to the Civil Service Commission for a six-year term through December 31, 2028.
- Duane Buck as an alternate to the Civil Service Commission for a six-year term through December 31, 2028.
- Glenn Beasley to the Environmental Advisory Council for a three-year term through December 31, 2025.
- Mary Jane Soule to the Environmental Advisory Council for a three-year term through December 31, 2025.
- Malloree Neuman to the Recreation Board for a five-year term through December 31, 2027.
Council is also expected to approve appointments to the zoning hearing board, planning commission and vacancy board.
Council continues looking for volunteers interested in serving on the Joint Historic Commission (one member and one non-member recording secretary), Historic Architectural Review Board (one member), Human Relations Commission (one member), Recreation Board (three members), Shade Tree Commission (one member), Parking and Signs Ad Hoc Committee; and Walk Friendly Newtown Standing Committee (three members).
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Newtown Borough Hall. The public is invited to attend.
