Newtown Borough Swears In New Part-Time Officer

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Newtown Borough on Friday welcomed its newest part-time police officer during a swearing-in ceremony at the Newtown Borough Hall.

Kohnow is a 2020 graduate of Pennsbury High School. After graduation from Pennsbury, she attended the Bucks County Community College where she earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice.

During her time at Bucks, she interned with a law firm and with the Penndel Borough Police Department as she explored a career as a lawyer or in law enforcement.

Kohnow said her internship at Penndel solidified her decision to go into police work. She went on to attend the Temple University Police Academy.
After graduating from the academy in October, she was hired by the Yardley Borough Police Department in November as a part-time officer. She was officially sworn in as an officer in December.
“We’re looking forward to her hitting the streets,” said Chief Sabath, noting that she is currently in field training. “We’re excited that she’s joining us.”
Her hiring brings the department’s part-time complement up to to 11.
