Newtown Township Elects Board Leaders; Looks Ahead To 2023
Supervisors re-appoint leadership team; chairman Dennis Fisher recounts accomplishments in 2022, looks ahead to challenges in 2023.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The board of supervisors on Tuesday welcomed the New Year by re-electing Supervisor Dennis Fisher as chairman, Supervisor John Mack as vice chairman and Supervisor Elen Snyder as assistant secretary and treasurer.
During its annual reorganization meeting, the five member board voted unanimously to continue with the same leadership team that led them through 2022.
According to Fisher, some of the chief challenges ahead in 2023 will be resolving the legal actions surrounding the Wawa development project on Silver Lake Road; maneuvering through the year on a very tight budget; completing and adopting the township’s comprehensive plan; designating
additional ARPA funds; and acting on a proposal to build a new pedestrian bridge over the Newtown Creek.

Fisher also outlined some of the township’s major achievements in 2022, including reaching a fire services agreement with neighboring Newtown Borough to help fund its paid firefighting staff; approving a settlement agreement with Toll Brothers to develop a part of the Archdiocese property at Route 413 and Twining Bridge Road with 45 homes; hiring a finance director; filling two police officer vacancies and hiring a new officer; began a search for a new deputy fire chief; and launched a YouTube channel.
In other accomplishments, Fisher said the township inked a labor contract with its firefighters union; approved a 10 year police services contract with neighboring Wrightstown Township; paving 3.5 miles of township roads; spending ARPA funds to purchase a new dump truck, three police vehicles and to make parks and recreation improvements including the Dolington Trail; and purchased three vehicles for the police department and a vehicle for the fire chief through the 2022 budget.

Also in 2022 the township was awarded two significant grants - one to make pedestrian safety improvements on Sycamore Street and one to construct sidewalks and to close existing trail and sidewalk gaps in the Newtown Business Commons.
“I hope all of us look forward to a productive year ahead,” said Fisher.
