Proclamation Honors Retired Newtown Borough Public Works Contractor

The council, the mayor and the public gave Fesmire a standing ovation at the January council meeting and presented him with a proclamation.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Newtown Borough Mayor John Burke joined borough council on Tuesday in recognizing retiring public works contractor and borough resident Ron Fesmire.

The council, the mayor and the public gave Fesmire a standing ovation at the January council meeting and presented him with a proclamation “for his hard work, kindness and professionalism.”

Fesmire stepped down in December after 25 years of maintaining the borough’s parks, streets and infrastructure.

According to Burke, Fesmire made a daily routine of interacting with borough business owners, residents and borough employees in a friendly and courteous way.

“He performed the responsibilities of borough property maintenance as if he were caring for his own,” said Burke reading from the proclamation.

In December, council voted unanimously to hire Joe McIlvaine Tree & Lawn Service in Feasterville as the borough’s new public works contractor.

Under a one year contract with the borough, McIlvaine will be paid $65 an hour to do general tree and yard care, trash collection throughout the business district and light maintenance.
