Republicans Announce Candidacy For Newtown Township Supervisor
Andrea Ahern and Debbie Verwoerd have announced their intention to run for Newtown Township Supervisor this year.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA —Newtown Township residents Andrea Ahern and Debbie Verwoerd have announced their intention to run for Newtown Township supervisor this year. They will be seeking the Republican nomination for two seats up for election in November.
The two women said they heard the concerns of their neighbors loud and clear while campaigning for candidates last year "The residents of Newtown Township want a return to basics at the township level, namely, better stewardship of taxpayer money, improved communication with residents, smart growth that is directed by township leaders and not developers, and a move away from the partisan politicking that has no place in local government," they said.
Ahern is a resident of Eagle Ridge where she chairs the Homeowners Association's finance committee. She has also been an active voice in fighting against over-development in the township.

She works closely with small business owners and start-ups ensuring that “Main Street” businesses continue to cultivate the American Dream of entrepreneurship by having the financial solutions needed to grow their businesses and employ members of the community.
As an SBA lender she said she understands and respects how small businesses become the engine to local economies and has dedicated her entire 20 year career to championing these business owners.

A lifelong Newtown resident, Ahern is also a former candidate for Newtown Township Supervisor, having run in 2021 with incumbent supervisor, Kyle Davis. She is a Council Rock and Temple University graduate and enjoys spending time with her two sons and their dog.
Ahern also volunteers her time on the board of the Daniel K. Wepryk Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to teaching youth about the dangers of opioid addiction, and she is on the leadership team of the networking group, Your Executive Roundtable (YERT), which not only generates business leads but has a philanthropic mission as well.
“I am excited about running for Newtown Township Supervisor again in 2023, and could not be
prouder to share the ticket with Debbie Verwoerd. Debbie will bring a common sense, business
lens to this Board, coupled with a genuine concern for the future of Newtown. We look forward
to bringing our resumes, work ethics and professional demeanor to the Board of Supervisors
and to serving our township residents who are so deserving of true professional leadership and
back to basics governance,” said Ahern.
Verwoerd has called Newtown home for nearly a decade and is a resident of Eagle Glenn. A marketing vice president at a global Fortune 500 company, she said she knows what it takes to run a successful business.
“It takes listening to your customers and co-workers, focusing on a core purpose and strategy, building a supportive culture through collaboration, coaching and developing your team, and strong financial management," said Verwoerd.
Verwoerd is accustomed to building and leading large teams and managing multi-million-dollar budgets. She wants to bring her 25 years of professional experience to the township level to serve her community.
A graduate of Rutgers University, Verwoerd enjoys spending time with her husband Matt, two
teenage children, and two dogs. She is part of "Chief," a network focused on connecting and furthering women leaders across the country. She also volunteers her time through her
company’s foundation, supporting organizations such as the Echoing Green Fellowship
Program that identifies the next generation of global social impact leaders and helps them bring
their ideas to life.
“I’m proud and honored to run for Newtown Township Supervisor with Andrea. I admire her as a
businesswoman, mother, leader and as someone who deeply cares about our community.
Andrea always puts Newtown first, she is always thinking about what she can do to serve the
community. We both know how to collaborate to get things done, and I look forward to
partnering with her to better serve the needs of Newtown Township residents," said Verwoerd.
Kyle Davis, a current member of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors, voiced his enthusiastic support for the candidacy of both Ahern and Verwoerd.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled at the prospect of having two such strong and successful business women on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.” said Davis. He further added, “These two potential candidates will bring much needed, real world corporate experience, talent and strong female voices to the board of supervisors and I would love to have them on the board with me.”
