The Newtown Township GOP is endorsing Ahern and Verwoerd for supervisor and Abrahamsen for auditor.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Republican Committee has announced its endorsement of Andrea Ahern and Debbie Verwoerd for the office of township supervisor and Delia Abrahamsen for township auditor.
The announcement was made by Kyle Davis, the chairman of the of the Newtown Township Republican Committee and a Newtown Township Supervisor.
“Andrea, Debbie and Delia represent the very best that Newtown Township has to offer. They are parents, professionals, taxpayers, community leaders and longtime residents whose commitment to our township runs deep,” said Davis. “Most importantly, they will put partisanship aside to do what is best for the community they call home because they believe local government is about helping people and focusing on real issues, not playing D.C.-type political games.”

Ahern and Verwoerd, who are both second generation Americans, cited a commitment to public service taught to them by their immigrant parents as a driving force in their desire to serve as
supervisors.
“For our parents and grandparents, being an American meant always giving back to the country that had provided such opportunity to them," they said. "Service and helping others is a core value instilled in both of us, and running for supervisor is a way for us to be a commonsense voice for our neighbors and work for a brighter future for all of us.”

Ahern is a graduate of Council Rock High School and Temple University who has called the area home since 1983. She works as a Small Business Administration lender, originating more than $100 million in new loans throughout her career which have helped small business owners achieve success and growth.
Verwoerd and her husband, Matt, chose Newtown Township as their home more than a decade ago. Today, she is an executive in a Fortune 500 Company overseeing a team of 22 people and a budget in excess of $4 million annually.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to bring our love of Newtown Township, life’s experiences, and desire to bring positive leadership to local government to the people of our community," said the candidates. "Our promise is simple: we will always work to do what is best for the majority of Newtown Township – whether it is ensuring fiscal discipline to protect taxpayers, smart growth policies that preserve our natural heritage, or standing with law enforcement and residents to keep our neighborhoods safe."
Also endorsed was incumbent Auditor Delia Abrahamsen. Abrahamsen was first elected in 2019 and has quickly earned a reputation as a fair and effective watchdog for Newtown Township’s taxpayers.
“The issue of ensuring tax dollars are spent as they are supposed to be is not political or partisan – it effects every taxpayer in our community. My goal has been – and always will be – to bring strong and professional oversight to the Township budget,” said Abrahamsen.
Ahern, Verwoerd and Abrahamsen have already begun collecting the required signatures to appear on the May Primary ballot as well as introducing themselves to local residents through door-to-door and retail political efforts.
