Midweek Snowstorm Possible: Forecasters

A significant snowstorm is possible during the first week of 2018, according to forecasters. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Eastern Pennsylvania, saying "the potential for accumulating snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday has increased."

Snowfall amounts and the extent of impacts are currently unknown and "will ultimately depend on how close the offshore low tracks to our area," the National Weather Service said in its Hazardous Weather Outlook.

It will also remain very cold this week.

Wind Chill Advisories will likely be needed again for late Thursday night into Friday morning and Friday night into Saturday morning as wind chills will fall between 5 below and 15 below zero, the National Weather Service said.

AccuWeather is predicting the mid-week storm will be major, and could bring a foot or more of snow and hurricane-force winds to New England. "Tremendous blowing and drifting snow is likely and some communities could be isolated for several days in the wake of the storm, should this worst-case scenario unfold," according to AccuWeather.

If the storm tracks within 100 miles of the coast, heavy snow and difficult travel may occur over the I-95 corridor of the mid-Atlantic, AccuWeather predicts.
