NEWTOWN, PA —Just when you thought the mullet had gone the way of the 80s, it's back. And it's experiencing a retro revival thanks to Gen Z.

To celebrate the resurgence of the mullet, the Newtown Theatre has announced the first-ever Bucks County Mullet Championship, followed by a screening of the 2001 comedy “Joe Dirt” on Sunday, May 3.

"Our patrons love the fun, sometimes kooky events that we come up with throughout the year," said the theatre's executive director Andy Smith. "The Mullet Championship fits right into that programming and gives a much-maligned hair style a day in the spotlight. This event is guaranteed to be fun for all ages."

The movie, “Joe Dirt,” follows a mullet-sporting, relentlessly optimistic man named Joe Dirt who was separated from his parents as a child and embarks on a cross-country journey to reunite with them. Along the way, his good-natured persistence and belief in himself lead to a series of misadventures that turn him into an unlikely hero.
