PHILADELPHIA, PA — Monday will be a bit rocky as far as the weather goes, with multiple hazards — including strong storms, extreme heat, and a flooding risk — currently being monitored by meteorologists with the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are predicting severe storms Monday afternoon and evening will break the heat wave that has gripped the Philadelphia region since the weekend. The heat will continue Monday, but won't be quite as intense as Saturday and Sunday, when the heat index topped 110.

A heat advisory is in place until Monday night. High temperatures Monday will spike to the low 90s, with the heat index up to 100.

A flash flood watch is also in place through Tuesday morning due to anticipated torrential rain.

The storms are expected after 3 p.m. and could go through the night. The highest likelihood of strong storms in the Philadelphia region is between 4 and 7 p.m., according to The Weather Channel.

Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain, the NWS said. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are likely, with up to 4 inches possible. "This could lead to flash flooding," the NWS warned.

The rain will linger through Tuesday, but by Wednesday expect clear skies and seasonal temperatures in the 80s. An early look at the weekend shows it should be a pleasant one, and cooler than last weekend.
